Founder & Clinical Director

David R. Stephens, LPC-S, NCC

Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, and scientist-practitioner with more than 23 years of clinical experience.

David specializes in evidence-based treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, intrusive thoughts, and anxiety-related conditions while integrating psychological science, neuroscience, behavioral medicine, and clinical experience into individualized treatment.

Bridging Research and Clinical Practice.

David's clinical philosophy is grounded in the scientist-practitioner model , integrating findings from psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral medicine into practical, individualized treatment.

He believes effective counseling should be guided not only by compassion and clinical experience, but also by rigorous scientific evidence. The goal is to bridge the gap between research and real-world clinical practice so clients have access to clinically meaningful strategies informed by the best available science.

This approach emphasizes continual learning, careful treatment planning, critical evaluation of emerging research, and the practical translation of science into meaningful behavioral change.

BTTI Specialized OCD / ERP Training

Advanced Training in OCD & ERP

David is a graduate of the International OCD Foundation's Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) , where he received specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention.

ERP is a leading evidence-based behavioral treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and requires a detailed understanding of obsessions, compulsions, reassurance seeking, avoidance, mental rituals, and intolerance of uncertainty.

David's clinical focus includes OCD, intrusive thoughts, and related anxiety presentations, with treatment designed around structured, evidence-based intervention rather than a one-size-fits-all counseling model.

01

Evidence

Clinical decisions should be informed by established research and continually evaluated as new evidence emerges.

02

Individualization

Treatment should be adapted to the client's symptoms, values, goals, history, strengths, and specific clinical presentation.

03

Application

Knowledge becomes useful when it can be translated into practical behavior and meaningful change outside the counseling room.

Sleep, OCD, and Glutamate

Exploring the Neurobiology of Restorative Sleep and OCD

As part of his ongoing research interests, David is studying the relationship between sleep and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, with particular interest in glutamate , the brain's primary excitatory neurotransmitter. His work explores how sleep quality, neurobiology, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms may interact, with the broader goal of better understanding mechanisms that could inform treatment.

Collaborative. Evidence-Based. Purposeful.

David believes that although every individual faces unique challenges, each person possesses the capacity to build a meaningful, fulfilling, and rewarding life.

He views counseling as a collaborative partnership founded on trust, respect, shared goals, and active participation.

By combining empirically supported interventions with practical, personalized strategies, David works alongside clients as they learn to overcome obstacles, increase resilience, develop new skills, and pursue their fullest potential.
