Purposeful Treatment. Measurable Progress.
Effective therapy should have direction. At Advanced Behavioral Health, treatment begins by identifying what needs to change and then building a focused strategy designed around those goals.
Our approach combines clinical expertise, evidence-based research, education, measurement, technology, whole-person health, and professional collaboration to help clients move from insight toward meaningful action.
Eight Strategies for Meaningful Change
Treatment should not be a collection of unrelated conversations. Each component of the counseling process should serve an established purpose and move the client toward clearly defined goals.
Target Issues
The first step is to identify and understand the goals for counseling. From that point forward, discussions, interventions, and treatment decisions are considered in relation to those goals. Without clearly defined targets, counseling can lose direction and may not produce the desired outcomes.
Utilize Research
Providing an empirically supported, evidence-based theoretical framework derived from peer-reviewed research creates a stronger foundation for treatment. Clinical decisions should be informed by the best available evidence while remaining responsive to the individual needs of each client.
Develop a Plan
While maintaining focus on established goals, we develop a step-by-step plan of action specifically designed around the individual client. The purpose is to create an efficient and practical path toward the changes the client wants to achieve through therapy.
Provide Education
Understanding what is happening and why it is happening can be an essential part of change. Providing relevant information and education about psychological processes, behavioral patterns, or a specific clinical issue helps clients become more informed and active participants in treatment.
Monitor Progress
We cannot effectively change what we do not monitor. Measurable steps, structured tools, and ongoing evaluation allow clients to observe their results and assess progress throughout the counseling process. Measurement also allows treatment to be adjusted when necessary.
Employ Technology
Advances in technology have created new opportunities for clients to become active participants in the treatment process. When clinically appropriate, technology can support education, tracking, skill development, treatment engagement, and a more efficient and rewarding counseling experience.
Synchronize Health
Emotional, behavioral, and physical health are interconnected. Developing greater synchronization among these areas can help clients strengthen the discipline, resilience, and adaptive capacity needed to understand, cope with, and overcome challenges that interfere with their potential.
Assemble Professionals
Complex concerns sometimes benefit from coordinated care. When appropriate and with the client's authorization, collaboration may include psychiatrists, primary care physicians, dietitians, educators, and other professionals. Creating an effective professional support network can improve communication and continuity of care.
From Understanding the Problem to Creating Change
These strategies are not isolated steps. They work together as part of an ongoing process in which treatment is continually informed by goals, evidence, experience, and measurable progress.
Progress Should Be More Than a Feeling.
Subjective experience matters, but meaningful treatment should also provide ways to evaluate whether change is occurring. Monitoring symptoms, behaviors, skills, exposures, habits, or other relevant measures gives both client and clinician additional information for making informed treatment decisions.
Behavioral Health Does Not Exist in Isolation.
Psychological functioning is influenced by many interacting systems. Effective care may include attention to behavior, physical health, sleep, routines, relationships, environment, medical factors, and other areas relevant to the client's goals.
Emotional Health
Developing greater awareness, flexibility, resilience, and an improved capacity to respond to difficult internal experiences.
Behavioral Health
Identifying the behaviors that maintain problems and building new patterns through deliberate, consistent action.
Physical Health
Recognizing that sleep, activity, nutrition, medical factors, and physiology may influence psychological functioning and overall well-being.
Strategy Turns Intention Into Action.
At Advanced Behavioral Health, the objective is not simply to talk about change. Treatment is designed to clarify the problem, establish meaningful goals, apply evidence-based strategies, measure progress, and continually refine the process as clients move toward greater freedom and a more meaningful life.
